Among other gaming laptop manufacturers, ASUS can be regarded as a manufacturer who is very diligent in updating the specifications of their line of gaming laptops. ASUS ROG STRIX GL502V for example.
The gaming laptop I’m going to review is an updated version of the previous ROG GL502. What is the difference? Specification of the components of course. ASUS ROG STRIX GL502V is a gaming laptop powered by the latest components, even supporting virtual reality technology.
Slightly different from its predecessor, ASUS ROG STRIX GL502V comes with a silver body. However, other parts have not changed much. This gaming laptop still uses a full-size keyboard that is comfortable to type and play games. The keyboard is also equipped with red LEDs that can be used when in a state of minimal light. Minusnya, ROG Center button on the laptop keyboard is very close to Backspace so sometimes disturbing when typing.
While the trackpad owned by ASUS ROG STRIX GL502V is also quite comfortable. Trackpad is quite sensitive and has a button that is quite kresponsif. However, the palm rejection system on the trackpad of this laptop is still not good making me prefer to use the mouse and disable its trackpad.
What makes me amazed at this laptop is the dimensions and the weight. ASUS ROG STRIX GL502V is a compact gaming laptop. He still can get into my camera bag and still very easy to travel anywhere. The features provided in this gaming laptop are also very complete to support my work needs, and I very often open Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom applications to process photos before publishing.
Believe it or not, ASUS ROG STRIX GL502V has accompanied me traveling to many places. First, this gaming laptop accompanied me while on duty at the Computex 2017 in Taipei held a few weeks ago. In addition, I also used 1 gaming laptop when I was assigned to Tokyo, Japan recently. Of all these trips, none of these problems caused by this laptop.
What about the performance?
One of the things I like best about ASUS ROG STRIX GL502V is its performance. This gaming laptop is powered by the most recent composer, the Intel “Kaby Lake” Core i7-7700HQ processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics chip with 6GB GDDR5 VRAM. Supported with 16GB of DDR4 RAM, this laptop is claimed to play various VR games.
Although not yet tested the VR game, ASUS ROG STRIX GL502V performance can already be seen from various synthesis tests that I have done. In testing using PCMark 8, ASUS ROG STRIX GL502V scored 4434 points or above our test standard of 4000 points. While on the graphics side, this laptop managed to score 9233 points using 3DMark Fore Strike.

While from the side of the battery, I did not expect much from this laptop. Nevertheless, the results remain above my expectations. ASUS ROG STRIX GL502V can last up to more than two hours with WiFi conditions lit. If Battery Saving mode in Windows 10 is turned on and the screen is dimmed, this laptop can last for almost three hours of use.
